ALMA and it’s members have had an indelible impact throughout Arizona.
Our History
ALMA was founded by Adolfo Echveste in 1993. Over the last 30 years we have grown the footprint those of Latino heritage are making in Arizona Healthcare.
Since 1996, ALMA Healthcare has been Arizona’s only coalition dedicated to breaking down barriers for Latino communities in medicine, transforming hundreds of lives through scholarships, mentorship, and career placement from high school through professional practice. The organization has created a vital network where medical professionals collaborate, learn, and grow beyond traditional education while connecting healthcare institutions with bilingual staff and talented students. ALMA’s enduring impact spans nearly three decades of building pathways into healthcare, fostering professional excellence, and ensuring Latino communities have both representation in medicine and access to culturally competent care.

Our History
Not all healthcare is created equal—cultural understanding, language access, and trust are as critical as medical expertise itself. Our directory connects Arizona’s Latino community with healthcare providers who don’t just treat patients, but truly understand their unique needs, values, and the barriers they face.
For nearly three decades, we’ve refused to accept that financial hardship, lack of role models, or systemic obstacles should determine who enters medicine. Through hands-on mentorship, strategic guidance, and tangible resources, we clear the path for Latino students to claim their rightful place in Arizona’s healthcare workforce.
We don’t just launch careers—we sustain them. ALMA provides practicing medical professionals with dynamic networking opportunities, continuing guidance, and direct connections to bilingual talent and job seekers who share their commitment to serving Latino communities. Be part of a movement that’s reshaping Arizona healthcare from within.
